Whaling and ship life in general were somewhat different yet somewhat the same. For a good overview of whaling life visit the NewBedford Whaling Museum.

For a good overview of life in a whaling town visit the Mystic Seaport
home of the Charles W Morgan - America's only surviving whaling ship.

For info on current whale issues, which mostly focus on ways to help whales survive, visit the Ocean Alliance website, the Provincetown Center for Coastal Studies website.

Some places to go on whale watches in the North East:
Boston, Provincetown and Salem MA, Naragansett and Newport RI, New London CT and the Canadian Maritimes.
The West coast include San Diego and San Francisco CA, Portland OR, Steward AK, Hawaii, Seatle WA and the Canadian Pacific Maritimes.
Austrailia, New Zealand, Mexico, and South America also have good whaling grounds.
